One year ago, my husband and I pushed our retirement out to purchase a small business. It seemed a wise investment, our oldest daughter (single parent) needed a place to work where she wouldn’t be penalized for taking care of her three children. The profits looked favorable enough to offer her a good living wage and the potential to expand was there. All the God doors were open!! I kept getting led back to it, finances were easy to obtain, eager partners… We knew we were purchasing it in the slow season but had faith that the busy time of the year would align us with our investment and provide. That busy time was overwhelmed by COVID mandates and it should have killed our dreams in less than one year of opening…
During the initial phase of quarantine, the company that I work for was considered essential though we had to split shifts. This meant a bit of adjustment as my husband and I assumed the shift that we weren’t accustomed to working with hopes that the duration would be about four weeks and with minimal impact. As the time frame of the second shift kept getting extended, I found that I needed to work from home two days per week because of an allergic reaction to the disinfectants now required for sanitization protocols, etc. Overwhelmed by all the changes, I needed to do something to keep my mind from spiraling down a path of worry and negativity… I saw a free offer on social media for a “Rise Up Challenge” from someone named Pete Vargas. Again, like the business for sale, it kept coming to me. I had nothing to lose, so I signed up with my partners, and,
(((WE DIDN’T GIVE UP)))
From the challenge we learned from successful folks that failure is a normal part of any business and what wins is FAITH and ATTITUDE. Pete led like Moses with his peers, encouraging us to believe in ourselves and HOLD ON. We tried to think of ways we could pivot our business (if you haven’t guessed it is Stay Golden Sun Spa!) and make sure that bills got paid and bellies had food… All the while knowing that we were already an underdog as newborn business owners. We set out to try and offer more for our clients that did not require traveling in to the business (even if it wasn’t tanning). We believed there MUST be other things that we could do to help others feel good about themselves? We had items that we could make from what was in stock (all natural/safe hand sanitizers and surface cleaners) and could offer life coaching (a Neuro Linguistic Programming Master Practitioner’s certification was obtained in order to have the tools to teach others how to build confidence in their own ability to weather this thing called life).
A skill taught from the Rise Up Challenge and NLP training I began writing and kept a daily intention journal for one month. At the beginning of the journal was listed over 20 affirmations contrary to limiting beliefs that had been discovered about myself while taking the NLP course. Affirmations like;
- I am worthy.
- I am healthy and strong.
- My opinion matters.
- I am successful.
The affirmations repetition came at the beginning of every day and again at night before going to bed. The reason for this is due to the nature of programming the subconscious into believing something contrary to the negative newsfeed and monetary circumstances and… and… and… It doesn’t know any differently! This is where the magic happens!! After a while, just like you know when you begin to reap the benefits of a fit body, behavior begins to change accordingly.
ATTITUDE to GRATTITUDE (misspelling intended)!
From there was an adoption of gratitude journaling. Every day I write down three things (either right before bed or as soon as I wake up, just so my subconscious gets an opportunity for a fulfilled reality). Just like many folks can take progress images, I have been noticing manifestations coming front and center in the most beautiful of ways. It isn’t about getting what I want so much as it is being grateful for already having what I need. Three things… EVERY SINGLE DAY… and it’s getting easier.
Gratitude is a form of prayer/meditation that gets answered/manifested in the most miraculous of ways! About a week before the gifts began presenting themselves, I was given signs in the form of angel numbers everywhere, blue horses in dreams and affectionate stray black cats on my deck (the latter two of the three I have blogged about previously).
My behavior has been to changing, folks are asking/trusting me for reassurance and gifts of support are being offered with love!! A few examples;
- I AM NOT AFRAID TO BE WHO/WHAT GOD CREATED ME AS ANYMORE. Displaying photos of myself publicly without feelings of “stage fright” insecurity is how I know. If folks see a friendly face on my business page (CHECK OUT THE WELCOME HOMESTEAD FOR BOOKING) the more likely they are to engage in some life coaching with me.
- MY EGO HAS DIMINISHED. My husband has always allowed me to be authentic and has never put limitations or boundaries on my thought path/process of choice. In our past, I had expectations about how to be loved… Appreciating how he shows love by giving me freedom opened up a whole new level of my adoration towards him.
- TRUST RUNS BOTH WAYS. Folks are openly coming to me for hugs/contact even in the midst of fear of the virus. They ask for advice and offer support. My past insecurities used to make me a defensive know it all. Now I find that when I am quiet, what people share about themselves can be the most exquisite mosaic…
- I AM NOT A BURDEN but a MUTUAL BENEFIT. There are so many ways to define success, perhaps extreme independence isn’t one of them!! Of course I have goals and am eager to get them realized, but where I am at is also a blessing because it keeps me humble to know that I don’t have to do it all on my own!
If any of you have read the very first “about the author” blog or have seen my story on The Welcome Homestead Facebook page, you must know that at one point in time I was very cynical about life. I didn’t trust anyone to help me and was either running away from life or too exhausted to try. However, just like one must exercise to be prepared for a marathon (insert your sport of choice here), it has been a practice throughout to come to this place and BELIEVE that it was ME who was responsible for my perceptions and outcomes. I must admit that not all days are good!! I used to believe in answered prayers for others, but not for myself. (((I AM STILL LEARNING))) and starting to experience some significant results…
TOO MANY TO LIST… THE PRESENTS ARE SHOWING THEIR PRESENCE!
We truly can do anything we set our minds to… DON’T YOU GIVE UP!!
